About our Alumni
There are over 900 Alumni from the Syracuse University Chapter of Delta Upsilon. We feel strongly that the men of Syracuse University should always have the option to join a non-secret and non-hazing fraternity. We are committed to this ideal because we believe that true Brotherhood and lifelong friendships are built on mutual respect, trust, and honor.
Over the past several years, our Alumni have raised substantial funds to make our return to Syracuse University a reality and establish an educational endowment to enable future generations of DU undergraduates to attend award-winning leadership conferences and participate in global service initiatives. Beyond financial support, we also help in numerous other ways.

Alumni Governance | Three Entities Support our Brotherhood
- The Chapter Advisory Board ("CAB"): The CAB consists of eight DU Alumni who are 1:1 mentors and advisors to our undergraduate Executive Board Officers. Their role is to support and coach the Brothers to help ensure their success. This includes leading the Chapter, following DU International Headquarters' best practices, recruiting new associate members, interfacing with SU, conducting philanthropic events, managing chapter finances, etc.
- The Housing Corporation Board ("Housing Board"): The Housing Board consists of six alumni who deal with everything to do with physical housing including liaising with the University, leases, purchasing, mortgages, repairs, insurance, taxes, etc. These men are a separate group from the Advisors and are the ‘landlords’ to our Chapter House at 801 Walnut Ave, Syracuse, NY.
- The Dikaia Foundation ("Dikaia") : Established in 1952, Dikaia consists of an 18 member alumni board who aid, encourage, promote, and contribute to the education and general well being of members of the Syracuse Chapter of Delta Upsilon enrolled at Syracuse University. Alumni donations provide undergraduate Brothers with financial aid, scholarships, and incentive awards. Dikaia Tax ID: 16-6044201. See more information below about the annual scholarship that Dikaia makes possible. www.dikaia.org

DIKAIA SCHOLARSHIPS
|
Since its founding, the Dikaia Foundation has provided the following academic, merit and needs-based scholarships in the name outstanding Delta Upsilon alumni. In 2019, a new scholarship was added to honor Brother Jeff Ploshnick '88.
The amount of each award may vary each year but typically range from $500-$1000. The Herb Dean Scholar Named after Herb W. Dean ’39. Awarded in recognition of outstanding academic and personal achievement, with special consideration given to students in the School of Management. The M. Harold Dwyer Achievement Award Named after Harold “Pete” Dwyer ’32 who was the Founding President of Dikaia. Awarded in recognition of outstanding academic and personal achievement. The Jock Stratton Award Named after Hubert Charles “Jock” Stratton ‘26 who was a founder of Dikaia and was “alumnus of the year” in 1977. He was a member of the intercollegiate championship junior varsity crew team of 1923 and stroke of the 1926 SU varsity crew team. Awarded in recognition of outstanding leadership, with special consideration given to members of a Syracuse University athletic team. The Dick Thorpe Award Named after Dick Thorpe ‘64 who was the Chairman of the Alumni Task Force that was responsible for bringing DU back to Syracuse in 2017. Typically awarded to graduating seniors who have consistently served the Chapter throughout their time at SU including their Senior year. The Jeff Ploshnick Friendship and Participation Award Awarded in honor of Jeff Ploshnick ‘88 to an undergraduate Brother who made the Brotherhood tighter by constant participation in all things DU and promoting friendship. As an undergraduate, Jeff never missed a Chapter, Rush, Hash, Initiation, party, intramural match, or philanthropic event. As an alumni, Jeff was a member of the Undergraduate Advisory Board, attended all DU reunions, kept in touch with his classmates as well as older and younger brothers, and donated to every fundraising and scholarship campaign. In doing it all, Jeff made fast and permanent friends. He gave you his undivided attention and took genuine interest in you and your family always before himself. Every time you talked to Jeff you got a little tighter, and the Brotherhood did too. The scholarship will be awarded to the individual who is an active member of the fraternity and exemplifies all of the characteristics and ethics at the core of who Jeff was. |
