Delta Upsilon - Building Better men

Delta Upsilon Fraternity has a long tradition at Syracuse University. In fact, DU was the second fraternity at SU and we were founded in 1873 in the Hall of Languages just three years after the University began. So we really aren't a 'new fraternity on campus'. We were there from the start and our return to SU has restored our traditional place on campus.

Below are some benefits of joining DU at Syracuse University:
  1. We are a non-hazing and non-secret fraternity. These are not just words to us. You will NOT be subjected to abuse here - just fun in the form of social events, intramural sports, formals, traditions, associate member trips, big brother/little sister, chapter dinners, philanthropy, etc.
  2. You’ll be part of DU's historic comeback and re-colonization, which will provide endless leadership opportunities you will use throughout your life.
  3. You will have access to award-winning leadership conferences, seminars, and global service initiatives.
  4. You will develop lifelong friendships based on shared core values:  justice, diversity, loyalty, honor, and respect.
  5. You will be eligible for scholarships provided by our educational foundation.
  6. You become part of a team of 900 Syracuse DU alumni (including Coach Jim Boeheim). You can network with this successful group to find internships and jobs. You also have access to our alumni LinkedIn group.
  7. Delta Upsilon's tagline is 'Building Better Men'. This isn't just a slogan. Your experience at DU will enrich your college experience and positively impact your life.

But we aren't here to sell you on our fraternity. We want men who believe in our core values and believe that lifelong friendships should be based on mutual respect and trust.

If you want to be a part of re-starting a historic fraternity at SU that will provide an alternative to typical fraternities for generations to come, then Delta Upsilon may be YOUR fraternity. We encourage you to visit the DU International website and express your interest.

20 years after leaving SU, 100 DU alumni gathered in NYC in Oct 2015 to honor a brother who passed, establish a scholarship in his name, and raise funds to ensure our glorious return to SU. DU Brotherhood is forever.

IN OUR OWN WORDS
This story is a good example of what makes DU unique...

I was hesitant to rush fraternities because I didn't drink due to a kidney problem. I wanted to be a part of a fraternity but was nervous that I wouldn't fit in due to not being a big drinker.  I didn't know anyone personally in DU but visited the house because I recognized guys from the dorm that were brothers and DU had quite a popular reputation. During the rush process I met some really cool guys in DU and felt "at home". It was important to me to be transparent with the brothers that I didn't drink so I told the Rush Chairmen and a few others my concern. I was told "that's OK we don't expect our brothers and pledges to drink, we don't force each other to do things...We don't haze at DU." I was so relieved to be accepted and protected by an amazing bond of understanding brothers. And much to my surprise, I wasn't the only guy who didn't drink in DU which was quite a paradigm shift of the stigma of "fraternity guys". Most importantly my parents were very impressed by the DU Brothers who accepted and supported me. Best decision I have ever made was to walk into 711 Comstock Ave in the Fall of 1987."
